Buying Manga
26th-Oct-2007 11:49 am
This is just for my own personal interest. I'm curious what recently licensed titles people are reading or are interested in reading.

From this small list of manga, what are you most interested in reading?

Affair
16(7.6%)
The Art of Loving
19(9.0%)
Close the Last Door
76(36.0%)
Constellations in My Palm
22(10.4%)
The Lily and the Rose
18(8.5%)
Love Recipe
29(13.7%)
Lucky Star
2(0.9%)
Ordinary Crush
11(5.2%)
Sunflower
14(6.6%)
Wagamama Kitchen
4(1.9%)

And on a totally unrelated subject, I have frickin' four copies of Meatmen volume 19. WTH?

Edit: Oh yeah, "Close the Last Door" fans, there's a fansub by Aarinfantasy of the first OVA (info also available at a variety of torrent trackers including animesuki). And the OVA directly follows the manga, so if you haven't been able to get a hold of the manga, check out the fansub. Deliciousness all around!

lol The Lily and the Rose i think
i love all Dany&Dany mangas i daily squeal at their webby such beautiful art,I was a fan even b4 they started releasing on English.
I know Close the Last Door vol 2 is highly anticipated but i'm not sure how much of the first volume ppl have read.
I'm not for sharing if those are scans ppl have asked other ppl not to share since that person will stop scanning it,and you asking this is very suspicious.
*Bad Whey very bad Whey*
*your asking for trouble*
*spanks you*
yshare has some of the mentioned so ppl can find it there [Affair is the last one shared]
The Art of Loving i think that one isn't shared out there or i don't know of it but Color(Sequel) can be easily found.
Ordinary Crush or Warito Yokuaru Danshikouteki Renaijijou I think that’s a No no too,Lucky Star never heard of it...Constellations in My Palm i didn't see it around after mochi and hocchuami dropped it,if it's out there point me to it.
Btw i'm so very glad your alright i hope your house is in one peace
Luve

Ps.new ITL chapter is out

Hehe. I took this poll too seriously maybe? In the event that you're shopping among these titles, I'll elaborate:

After no deliberation, I voted for Close the Last Door. This got me asking myself why it was such a no-brainer for me.

First, I love this story. It's about adults in adult situations. Much as I enjoyed Ordinary Crush, Sunflower, and Constellations in My Palm, they're school oriented and don't compete well against something more adult in theme (at least for me). But I did buy and enjoy all of these.

Affair is simply a collection of oneshots. Enough said. I always prefer a lengthy story to oneshots. Though I still liked the volume well enough.

The Art of Loving is simply not complete enough to enter into the equation for me. Unlike Close the Last Door, it can't really stand well on its own, imo.

Love Recipe, hmmm, harassed uke. Maybe it's too simple? I don't know why this one wasn't near the top of the list.

I haven't read The Lily and the Rose.

I am having a brain-freeze on Lucky Star (is this Keiko Konno's Star? If so, I enjoyed this one too--but not as much as Close The Last Door).

And I think the art for Wagamama Kitchen is so lacking that I wouldn't even give it a chance.>_>

26th-Oct-2007 08:13 pm (UTC)
I'm pretty sure I agree with your opinion on all of these (well, except the ones I haven't read yet, which include Ordinary Crush, Sunflower, Constellations, Love Recipe, The Lily and the Roses... oh geez, half of them, I suck).

I loved, loved, LOVED Close the Last Door. Absolutely loved it. But, if I hadn't been on a kick to buy every US manga title out there, I probably wouldn't have bought it, because I'm an idiot. XD No, no, actually, because I didn't know whether or not I'd like it, and I actually like to review titles before I buy them, but like I said, I've been on a rabid-BUY-IT-ALL kick (I'm any company's dream customer, I love buying stuff, and I'll even buy something that I may not like if it 1) fits in my "collection" or 2) supports an artist whose other stuff I like or 3) supports a niche market that I want to see succeed (go BL!!)).

Yeah, I wasn't too impressed with Wagamama Kitchen. It's being bought only because it's part of the BL-collection. I'm looking forward to Love Recipe, because I love that mangaka (hurry up stupid company I ordered it from, but instead sent me a copy of Loveholic which I already have!).

Lucky Star (Kouhara Shiomi)... it's just sad (not as in weepy sad, but, *ack*, US distributors have come a long way from their original foray into releases (yay new distributors!) sad). It was released by a now-defunct? company, ComicsOne. They did the whole "westernization" of it, where they flipped it so it could be read left to right (at least, I think they did, because if they didn't, then the stories really don't make a lot of sense. XD)

Whey you an angel???????????????????????????????????????
perhaps when the pigs fly !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
only the question why this title?
there are much yaoi licensed more nice
however some I not know them only i'm sure not interestin in reading is "close the last door" cuz i don't like this mangaka (the tastes are taste)^^
26th-Oct-2007 08:35 pm (UTC)
I'm an angel, I am! I swear, I'm really, really nice... to almost everyone. (Except that wicked witch, Sylvia, the stupid, drunk cow. I wouldn't brake if I saw her walking down the street, but that's about it.)

These titles? Chosen because they've either been shared and are no longer or not readily available, someone has mentioned they were planning on sharing them in the future, or someone has expressed a desire for someone to share them. Maybe, if people see see a title others are really interested in, they'll share it? Or, even better, buy it for themselves?
26th-Oct-2007 08:39 pm (UTC)
How sad, no one's voted for Affair yet.
. . . Though obviously I didn't either >_> As much as I love Shiuko Kano, I had to go with Close the Last Door for almost the same reasons as grayunderpants.
26th-Oct-2007 08:46 pm (UTC)
You know, I love Kano Shiuko, too... but I didn't really like Affair. I remember after reading it, thinking, "Bleh". But, I'll still buy anything of hers, too, because some of her titles I absolutely adore. (Yaizu Brothers!!)
26th-Oct-2007 10:23 pm (UTC)
Hmm. I think amazon needs to add a 'search inside'....
26th-Oct-2007 10:30 pm (UTC)
I feel silly for asking, but what's a "search inside"? :)
26th-Oct-2007 10:37 pm (UTC)
I voted for Affair. =] I like the art, and I actually prefer one shots I've realized. Most of my favorite series: The Embalmer, Doll, Petshop of Horrors, are all connected one shots.

I'm really surprised at how many people voted for Close the Last Door. The blurb about it on amazon didn't make it a must order for me, but now I think I may have to check it out since everyone seems to love it so much!
26th-Oct-2007 10:39 pm (UTC)
And....I had Affair confused with another manga. xD So I have no idea which I would pick now. I actually haven't read any of those yet, so I have nothing to base my decision on.
27th-Oct-2007 02:19 am (UTC)
Aww, you're just kinda makin me feel worse for having no money to get guy all these ;-;
27th-Oct-2007 03:53 pm (UTC)
*rubs your belly* Pain, pain, go away! No bad feelings, all will be well and happy in BL land.
27th-Oct-2007 03:09 am (UTC)
hmm...between 2 choices, I choose Affair ^^ the other one is Close the Last Door. I have also The Art of Loving, Love Recipe, Sunflower n Wagamama Kitchen, 'coz I'll grab anything I saw displayed on Kino's shelf XD As nekkie said above, it's not easy to get BL stuffs in our country T_T

Anyway, if other books were stored inside my bookshelf, only titles from Shiuko ano, Haruka Minami, Riyu Yamakami, Yamada Yugi n Hyouta Fujiyama clatter around my desk ^^v
27th-Oct-2007 03:38 pm (UTC)
I finally got my bookshelf organized, so no more books cluttering up my desk... my coffee table... my nightstand, my dresser, the floors in every room... XD

Close the Last Door is most definitely my fav. I've been waiting so long for Art of Loving #2 that I've almost given up. I think DMP forgot about that one. (Same with Hero Heel..another they've forgotten.) Oh well. I reread Color when I need a fix. But Ogawa-sensei is one of my top 10 favorte manga-kas of all time, right up there with Bohra-sensei and I bless the scanslators for translating The Door Into Your Heart. Big purrs and huggles!
27th-Oct-2007 03:50 am (UTC) - Re: Door
Eep. I xx'd up. I attributed the wrong manga-ka to Close. Beat me, please. Anyhow, since I've now taken time to read all the comments before me, I actually have any intelligent opinion.
Close the Last Door is still #1, tops, on that list. Actually, it's tops on many of my lists.
Affair is right up there too, because I love the manga-ka.
I have Wagamama Kitchen and it's so-so. I'd rather read many others first before I read that one.
Art of Loving is great..but when will we see the next one? If ever?
Never read Lily or Constellation.
The others I have - I have everything I can find in English-tramslated BL, including Poison Cherry Drive which I bough solely to support the manga-ka and BL in general. I will continue to buy everything they deign to release, no matter what, and all that.
Thank you, BTW, for asking! Great poll!
27th-Oct-2007 04:17 am (UTC)
Gawd, you don't know how happy I am that Close the Last Door got the most votes. It's probably the manga that surprised me the most because I read Saigo WITHOUT EXPECTING IT TO BE OH SO GOOD AND YET IT IS, SO MUCH. *coughs* Sorry, it's my favourite Yamada-sensei manga so I tend to babbler about it.

I noticed your reply above and yeah, isn't Yamada-sensei just freakin' awesome? Her art is certainly not the best, but the face faults of her characters crack me up big time and it ALWAYS make me smile. >__< I think that's the best bit in sensei's manga---how she expertly combines honest-to-God humor and drama.

I love Fujiyama-sensei, but Ordinary Crush and Sunflower aren't her best works (my favprite is still 1k Apaato no Koi, hahaha). The rest are ok, but Saigo is one of my favourite manga, so there. ;P

ITL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! XD
27th-Oct-2007 03:42 pm (UTC)
ITL!!!!!!!!!!! Hehe

Yes, maybe that's exactly why I love Close the Last Door so much. It was such an unexpected surprise, I really didn't think I'd like it as much as I did.

I haven't read Ordinary Crush or Sunflower yet, but Sunflower arrived in the mail yesterday, so I should get to it soon. And I loved Love in a 1k Apartment, too! I got the "official"? release, "Lover's Flat" sitting on my bookshelf, waiting to be read. I love having the different versions to compare and enjoy. It really is like reading a whole different manga all over again -- with the added bonus of already knowing and loving the characters and stories. ^^
27th-Oct-2007 07:46 am (UTC)
I can only pick one?!? there's so many good titles to choose from!

I chose Constellations in My Palm because yukine honami = love
but I also like ordinary crush and love recipe. I have sunflower volume 01 but I still haven't been able to find a copy of the second volume.

27th-Oct-2007 03:47 pm (UTC)
Ack! I haven't ready ANY of those yet. I'm waiting for Constellations and Love Recipe to arrive, but everyone keeps mentioning Ordinary Crush so I'm bumping that up on my To Read list. Sunflower isn't getting as rave reviews as the others, so, it's going to have to wait a bit for my lovely self to get around to it. :p

Hmmm, I don't think volume 2 has been released (in English), but I've got raw scans if you want.
27th-Oct-2007 05:19 pm (UTC)
My hands had been itching close the last door, lily and the rose or constellations in my palm ?? which one will it b? in the end since ive sorta tried to or rather raped the japanese version of close the last door volume 2, i chose constellation coz ive been wanting to read it eva since mochi dropped it and got disbanded. Lily and the rose is equally delicious. Dany n dany ahhhhh their amorous n beautiful art work. Really cant decide. O well.
27th-Oct-2007 11:45 pm (UTC)
I haven't seen Lily and the Rose yet, but I have their "Wishing for the Moon" and based on that (and the good reviews Lily has gotten), I'm looking forward to it. Looking forward to Constellation, too. I really enjoy those "softer" quiet titles. I could read Rin over and over.

Have you read Close the Last Door yet? There are scans for it, floating around, but I'm never sure if people are interested or would rather not know (or if it even makes them angry).
27th-Oct-2007 08:56 pm (UTC)
lol I suppose I'm one of the majority, becase I answered Close the last door by Yamada Yugi ^^ I'm a big fan of this mangaka. I only have Picnic & Close the last door in my mangatheque, I wish there would be more !
27th-Oct-2007 08:57 pm (UTC)
Ooooh, what's mangatheque?

30th-Oct-2007 01:24 am (UTC) - surprised! O.O
I haven't read any of the manga listed above, but I did look up each title and thought Love Recipe was interesting so I voted for that.

But surprisingly, most votes go to Close the Last Door! It's really was a shock. So I wonder if Close the Last Door really is great to get so many votes. (guess I'll find out later)

Oh man! I just remember! While I was browsing around to look for yaoi I saw Close the Last Door and Love Recipe covers. No wonder I thought both manga look familiar. hehe^^
30th-Oct-2007 04:43 pm (UTC) - Re: surprised! O.O
You know, until I read "Close the Last Door", I would never have picked it either. Having read it... I love it! It's a definite recommended buy for me.
30th-Oct-2007 12:52 pm (UTC)
I chose, Constellations in My Palm. I love, love, love the first two chapters of this scanlated by mochi2 & hochunami. And everytime I visit Suzume's website I fall in love even more, I guess I have to resign myself to reading this after ohh a few months. I can't wait.
30th-Oct-2007 04:47 pm (UTC)
You know, everyone keeps mentioning Constellations (I need to go read those mochi releases). I have learned to pay attention when multiple people recommend a series, because each and every damn time, I, too, have come to love the series/mangaka. I'm so ashamed of my long list of mangakas I didn't like and now absolutely adore.

I've got Constellations on pre-order, just waiting for it to arrive. Now you've got me all anxious and impatient. XD
