Wicked A, You Rat Bastard
30th-Jul-2007 09:38 pm
If you're reading this, yay, you got back home safe and wtf, get some sleep, foo. Unless you're drawing me fabulous images of hot guys in that psuedo-neuvo-euro-comic style, in which case, wtf, why isn't it done yet? (Make me into a bunny, cause bunnies are hot and fuzzy and cute and disturbingly evil... and DO taste like chicken *grumbles* And don't forget my army of turnips.)

And speaking of radishes, get off the myspace so you stop getting confused with all those pedophiles, and upgrade to the drama that is livejournal.

We miss you already. Squeeze K's boobings tips for me (urr, and maybe don't let her read this).

Peace out, CopperTONE-DEF-LOC

To anyone not Anthony reading this, I'm trying to expose this poor straight boy to the love that is BL. So, if you have any good suggestions, heavy on the art (he was very impressed with Crimson Spell) AND it has a good story, it makes the conversion so much easier.

Crimson Spell
Descendents of Darkness
Devil X Devil
Double Call
Empty Heart
Grant My Wish
Gravitation, Remix, Megamix, (there's even a Gravitation novel which isn't half bad)
Honoka na Koi no Danpen wo
Kaze no Yukue
Last Client
Lies & Kisses (Uso to Kiss)
Love Hustler
Lovers and Souls
Maiden Rose
Midnight Sun
Mirai no Kioku
Only The Ring Finger Know (manga+novels)
Paradise on the Hill
Secret Agreement (Mitsuyaku)
Sakende Yaruze!
Silver Diamond
The Summit
Three Wolves' Mountain

HIGA Sakia
HIIRO Reiichi
Inariya Fusanosuke
Takashima Kazusa

Also recommend
Sex Pistols (The artwork was hard for me to get past at first, but now I love it. The story rocks.)
Boku no Sexual Harassment
31st-Jul-2007 04:49 am (UTC)
Beautiful characters...beautiful art...but alas...no smex...SILVER DIAMOND is on my top list of manga to pimp!!!
31st-Jul-2007 05:08 am (UTC)
Oooh, excellent suggestion. The lack of sex could be a benefit in this case, although he wasn't too offput by the round shiny, supple bubble devil butts in Crimson Spell. I was thinking Gravitation Megamix just to see if I could make his eyeballs explode, but I need those, dammit.
31st-Jul-2007 05:26 am (UTC)
I would suggest "Sakende Yaruze!"

The story is very funny, smex is not too graphic and it's complete!
And it's not too long, so the reader won't get too tired of the story.

It's one of my all times favorites ^__^
31st-Jul-2007 05:40 am (UTC)
Oooh, wonderful story there. I'll get some paperclips and prop his eyes open and MAKE him read... instead of covering his eyes whenever naked parts co-mingling show up. It's like he's never seen one or something. Dude, you got your own personal doll with instructions hanging right between your... okay, tmi. But Sakende Yaruze! is definitely a good one storywise.
31st-Jul-2007 05:47 am (UTC)
I would suggest Rin & Desire, that was the first 2 bl that I read that really made me love the genre. And I guess it would be a nice introduction to different art styles of mangakas no?

I love everything about it the story, the characters, everything. I guess Desire does have a little smex but Rin not really. :)

I really love what you did to the home page & I guess this is my chance to say thanks for all your hard work.

Thank you for the kind words, jeanna. :) Hopefully, we can get Wicked Anthony to draw us up some nice smutty boys so the page has a little color to it.

And I'd forgotten about Rin! Love, love, love that series. A much different style. Man, he's going to be reading a lot. I think I shall make him report back on each of these series with his thoughts.

You reading this Wicked A? Get to work, beeeyatch and read this gay porn! (Well, don't read it AT work...)
31st-Jul-2007 06:24 am (UTC) - Re: Wicked A, You Rat Bastard
always hard for me to do, recommend without knowing a person. i like crimson spell alright, but i am generally more for the realistic storylines instead the fantasy, so i can't help with those a lot; i see silver diamond has already been recommended. i also like koori no mamono no monogatari, same mangaka: sugiura shiho (but also not finished, and looong) -- but it's fantasy. also honoka na koi no danpen wo by duo brand -- 1 volume, complete, supernatural swords! i don't remember how much smexing is in it, but if the drama CD i listened to today is to be trusted, not much.

stuff that my own straight bois have liked: mirai no kioku and kaze no yukue by kunieda saika. heavy on story, light on sex, both finished. and yellow by tateno makoto, which is also finished and a mere 4 volumes.
31st-Jul-2007 11:06 pm (UTC) - Re: Wicked A, You Rat Bastard
*blinks at you*

You have straight bois? As in plural? As in your very own delicious harem? Can I visit? And bring my camera? And alcoholic beverages?

Wicked A (that rat bastard) is an Ar-teest, so is really into artwork, and as fantastical as Sensei Yamano's Crimson Spell series is, it is utterly fucking beautiful (I have the testimonial of at least one male of the breeder persuasion, so it must be true!).

Love Sugiura Shiho, but I agree, probably too long for a first foray. But Duo Brand... mmmmmmmmmm... I'm trying to remember Mirai (re-reading time), don't think I've read Kaze yet, and Tateno Makoto always a favorite (I like her more for her stories than her artwork, even though it's grown on me).

Thank you very much for the suggestions, I'm preparing a nice, looooooong list and will DEMAND that he read everything on it since people have been kind enough to take the time to offer suggestions. And if he doesn't, I'll kick his weeee-ked arse.
31st-Jul-2007 03:33 pm (UTC)
I recomend Yatteraneeze! or anything by Koide Mieko - she had great stories and not alot of smex but just enough. Also Silence by Takamiya Azuma is a good story as well.
31st-Jul-2007 11:10 pm (UTC)
Oh god. Yatteraneeze! I used up a good box of tissue reading that series (damn you DokiDoki and your excellent manga choices and amazing translations!!!). Hmmm, I don't know if I can rope him into reading that (maybe his chick, since I'm trying to corrupt her, too, and that's just angsty and romantic enough to addict anyone), but Silence is an excellent suggestion.

Dammit, every manga suggested makes me want to go back and either re-read them or check out the ones I've missed. Damn you clock with your lousy 24 hours on it. I need more time!

I've had friends who have tried to get straight boys into BL. From what I've seen, Decendents of Darkness hooked them.

But I would also suggest Midnight Sun. (From what I've read so far, there's hardly any sex, if any, but I think it has a very awesome plotline.)

Personally, the way I would convert a boy is get him into shoujo first that just HAPPEN to have some boy action and as time goes by, slip in more and more until he's completely into BL.

"Personally, the way I would convert a boy is get him into shoujo first that just HAPPEN to have some boy action and as time goes by, slip in more and more until he's completely into BL."

Okay, that you've even put thought into your wicked conversions makes me recognize your brilliance. I think I tried the DoD anime on the boyfriend, but no luck with him, so I'm thinking Anthony will be difficult on that front. I'm almost wondering if too much story is too much for the feeble mind of the male species and I should just stick to the "pretty"?
31st-Jul-2007 09:50 pm (UTC)
Paradise on the Hill or Desire...two excellent choices for the newbi. Or Three Wolves Mountain or Dvil vs Devil...yum.
31st-Jul-2007 11:26 pm (UTC)
Desire, one of the first BL purchases I made (always a favorite). I don't think I've read Paradise on the Hill, so I'll have to check that out (hah, I'm so abusing these suggestions for Anthony for my own reading pleasure!). I think he'd go for Three Wolves' Mountain, but have a feeling he'd smirk at Devil vs. Devil (although I agree with your "yum" assessment). Mmmm, cute boys with wings...
31st-Jul-2007 10:35 pm (UTC)
Vassalord is really good, action and well, almost yaoi:) Or maybe something light, like Only The Ring Finger Knows, but it's maybe too romantic, for someone who likes Crimson Spell. If he likes sports (baseball), how about Double Call from Hiiro Reiichi or Love Hustler from the same mangaka for more action and adventure?
That's all and lots of yaoi love for you:)
31st-Jul-2007 11:16 pm (UTC)
Vassalord!!!! Yes, perfect!! (Ooooh, and a perfect hook for his gal, since she likes shounen. I will convert them all, one state at a time. Watch out Nyyeeew Jer-say!)

*rubs the yaoi love all over you*
1st-Aug-2007 12:11 am (UTC)
Or what about Maiden Rose? Unfinished, but still really good. War and all that junk. Sex, yes, but...its only a few pages.... XD
1st-Aug-2007 03:00 pm (UTC)
I do not know this "Maiden Rose" you speak of, but I imagine for most of the boys I know:

War? Good.
Additional related junk? Good.
Sex between men in small doses? Better than large doses.
1st-Aug-2007 01:45 am (UTC)
How about ZE from Yuki Shimizu or one of Youka Nitta's manga, they are some of my favorite manga :)
2nd-Aug-2007 07:36 pm (UTC)
*Adds "ZE" to the list to preview for the straight boy.*

I showed him Youka Nitta's artbook, "Kiss of Fire" and he seemed impressed. (I don't think he truly understands the yummy that is Iwaki, though.) I think her work is some of the best examples of artwork with more of a touch of realism. She is a goddess.
1st-Aug-2007 03:19 pm (UTC) - Yipes!
Thanks everyone for all the recommendations! Looks like I have alot of reading to do..armed with all this bl ammo I'm sure I can whip up something nice for ya, W. Thanks so much for hooking it up, I had a blast!

P.S. The 'K' situation has been TOTALLY handled ; )
2nd-Aug-2007 07:40 pm (UTC) - Re: Yipes!
Okay, keep your pervy breeder sex off my hot-boy-on-boy-sex-only journal.

Do you know how desperately I want to make a joke about "whipping" something up for me? If it includes K, right on!

I'm going to compile a list (with links to download where possible) of the suggestions made. Read it all. Closely. Twice or thrice, even. There will be a quiz later.
3rd-Aug-2007 01:48 am (UTC)
Have you thought about Crimson? Lotsa bishies fighting, fairly tame smex.
Tokaido Hisame is more sho-ai, but again lots of fighting. Oh and that pirate story from Shungiku Nakamura, that I can't remember the name of is great too.

But if you want to pop his brain, show him Boku no Sexual Harassment. ;D
3rd-Aug-2007 07:00 am (UTC)
mwahaha! "The Legend of Four Hourseman" is the really popping-brain-anime!
3rd-Aug-2007 06:57 am (UTC)
talking about sweetest:
yaoi - Love Mode by Shimizu Yuki
shounen ai - Wild Fang by... (um, sorry, i'm on my work now, so i can't go to sites with bl-pictures, sorry! but this manga was scanlated by Nakama).

these are the first, that came up on my mind (well, there was also The Summit, but it's already on the list. Anyway, The Summit - is my obsession... *sight*)
3rd-Aug-2007 09:17 pm (UTC)
LOVE The Summit. When I was at the comic-con last year, I think volume 4 had just come out. I was pitifully trying to ask the one Korean manhwa vendor I found there if they had a copy for sale. I was frantically pointing to the volume 2 they had on display while holding up four fingers and then making the international hand sign for "tearfully begging that you have a copy I can get my grubby hands on".
3rd-Aug-2007 07:14 am (UTC)

all of us forgot about "Zetsu ai"! shame on us!

(and sorry if there is too much of me in your thread *guilty smile* )
3rd-Aug-2007 09:11 pm (UTC)
I think it's probably too angsty for a straight boy. XD

And I also think MORE Shipniss = Happy Goodness.
