Thank you very much for sharing!

Thanks Whey.

So I wonder is this poaching on the part of SP? Or is FM passing the project to them?
3rd-Sep-2007 01:07 am (UTC)
Going by what deadlydesire4u stated below, FM still has it as a current project. Is "poaching" one of those no-nos in the scanlation world?
2nd-Sep-2007 01:57 pm (UTC)
Thanks for sharing , i didnt see forever more drop the project , its still listed as current and in project status it says editing in process @_@ ...so why have souly translated....

Ahhh, I guess since it was longer than 5 months since the last release, SP decided to take over the project? I'm not real privy to the inner workings of SP. I don't think they like me. XD

oh look, the little poachers. way to start out on the wrong foot.

i know forever more was very slow in releasing the next chapter, but that's pretty obnoxious, they didn't even ask (obvious from their forum).

*sigh*. i hope forever more doesn't drop it now, since their scanlations are considerably better than these guys'.

Oooh, well, that's just drama in the making. And as much as I generally try to avoid it, I will admit to a morbid fascination when these eruptions occur.

And I love Forever More. Wish there were more groups out there like them (and AF and LP/BE and DP and EB and Bliss and P-S and Yasca and DokiDoki and... well, you get the idea).

Oy, not to be mean or anything, but:
Just want to remind ppl scanlations are free, so if you paid for them, then you're fully justified to complain (don't give me the "you wasted my precious time by dl/reading your crap"-crap XD). Sure, quality is a nice thing, but beggars can't be choosers.
To return to the main topic, I don't like "poaching" much either, since translating and editing requires a lot of effort, and I think too there are plenty of other manga to be scanlated. But ya know... no one owns the "rights" to scanlate a manga (in fact, it's the opposite XD), and when talking about human courtesy... well, most of the fans just don't give a shit. You all downloaded it no? (sidenote: I didn't)

All by all, rejoice anti-SP! Since F-M today released their version, and it looks like they're not dropping BxB. So, you all have the choice, dl fast "inferior" (?) releases from Soul.ly Passion.ate, or wait a few months for better quality. Up to you :) (or, they get faster with this as the catalysator?)

Since I'm already at it, about the "5posts first" and "don't distribute elsewhere our releases": I just realised, the groups I'm translating for both rely on forums. It wasn't on purpose, I just wanted to help out new groups so they won't have to disappear in only a few months and they sounded really pasionated (they need proofreaders with more guts to kill my odd sentences though, but meh, time will learn). I can only say, I'm vain enough to read the thanks after releasing. It motivates when in dispear over a sentence that doesnt seem to make sense. So yeah, that, and otherwise their forum would be dead are the motivations to include such rules. Not saying the owner (whey) of this LJ must close or anything (I know I use it myself XD, though sendspace is a b*tch), just don't like it when ppl are trashtalking when those groups put so much effort into it. Scanlations are made in order fans can read, but ppl aren't that generous, they always expect something in return (eep, such an economical aproach :p).
Such a long reply for so -many- ppl to read... -_-;

I don't think anyone has the right to ascertain ownership over scans, translations or scanlations (except for people who have an agreement with the owner, of course, like paying a mangaka to distribute an English version of their work, etc.). They're all illegal. So "claiming" projects or trying to control distribution often seems like a waste of time and adverse to the advantages scanlations can bring to the creators.

This doesn't mean I don't appreciate everyone's kindness, generosity, effort and work in exposing a much wider audience to these pieces of lovely brilliance. On the contrary, I really would prefer people thank 1) the mangaka and 2) the scanlators. (Which is why I rarely, if ever, reply to "thank yous", as I don't feel I deserve them and I don't want detract from the people who do.)

However, the tactics of some does make me wonder about the motives of some scanners/scanlators (not so much translators, in my experience). I've found if you provide an easy way for people to give you feedback, they're more likely to. Requiring readers to join yet another forum/group/site these days when I've seen a number of places, both scanlators and sharing ("download dumps") communities, enforce and engage in thug-like behavior (and even worse, abuse the trust placed in them through their access to confidential information) has most definitely affected my views and the advice I give to others. These actions are not very conducive to generating feedback. They don't seem to support and promote a healthy, active, fun community. Instead, I'm seeing, "Hey, they broke our rules. Go get 'em people! And if you see anyone else breaking our rules, let us know so we can ban them and/or send the mob after them, too. Heathens!" XD

I know there are some points to your post that I haven't addressed, but I'm (obviously) long-winded and can go on and on. But I will say I don't have a problem with "poaching", meaning I don't have an issue with SP's release of "Brother X Brother". I do understand if some people are upset over this, but me personally? I love having different versions of the same manga (gawd, I'm so anal I even like having different versions of the chapters from the same group). I find it infinitely interesting and I often learn more from the different interpretations.

I understand Sendspace as a download tool can often be a pain in the ass. But, it's been a great tool for providing a backup for me (and if it gives others access to download releases they might not otherwise have access to, then double-yay). Plus, I assume that other bandwidth-generous souls out there can and do reupload to other services, and if they help distribute, well, triple (oooh, menage)-yay!
4th-Sep-2007 01:17 pm (UTC) - a very strange request
Hi baby i need help,i've once read a oneshot but i forgot the title and the autor,i'll try making a shity summary and if you by any change remember what i'm talking about can you please upload it for me.
So the story is like this, the uke who is openly gay has a straight friend and secret crush on the tall dark-haired [neardy] looking guy, they've been friends for years but the uke never tried anything so he would preserve their friendship.
The seme comes by metro/train to visit the uke on a weekend to the uke’s small and cheap apartment and leaves his umbrella so that he would have a reason to visit the uke again, and then the plot develops about the leaving/not taking the umbrella and uke’s agonizing on his unrequited love…and so on eventually they sleep together, but the uke i think chases away his seme because he doesn't expect anything in return but the same has feeling for the uke and comes again next weekend or something they confes their feelings and clear all misunderstandings ...bla bla they live happily ever after.
Now i know the summary is pure crap and I mean Christ I even wrote summaries for uploaded yaoi mangas on other ppl’s lj
but i can't remember the oneshot very well it’s only vague in my head.
i think it might be one of Kunieda Saika’s mangas but I’m not sure, possible groups that scanned it might be obsession,SiH or loveless but guess what I’m not sure about that either.
So if anything pops up in your head after reading this please let me know.

It makes me sad when new groups poach scanlations. Existing groups are trying so hard to recruit new staff and they can't find any, especially translators. If someone is genuinely interested in scanlating, they should join an existing group and help out.
It seems such a waste to have more than one group working on the same project. A lot of these "pirate" groups have poor quality control and they lose interest pretty quickly and disappear, leaving projects unfinished.
It seems to be getting pretty common in fansubs too with some popular doramas getting 3 or more groups subbing them at once! Obviously all this is illegal and no-one has more right to scanlate or fansub than another person but a little common sense would go a long way.
